![]() This is a call-for-participation in an international conference with special emphasis on: Mitochondrial structure, dynamics and compartmentation and Mitochondrial membrane transport processes and signalling The organization and format of the meeting will be modeled after that of the first two Albany Conferences on mitochondria, held in 1996 and 1998, which is designed to enhance informal exchange of ideas and the latest information, with conferee participation in formulating the agenda, as described below. The 2000 meeting will be held on Sept 14-17 in a conference center set on a picturesque hillside in the Helderbergs in upstate New York. The site includes a modern auditorium building for plenary and poster sessions, and several comfortable houses and cottages for housing the participants. The conference fee ($525) will cover room and meals from the evening of Sept 14 (Thursday) through midday on Sept 17 (Sunday), as well as transportation between the conference site and the Albany airport. Formal plenary sessions are restricted to mornings and evenings, with the afternoons free for informal discussion and scheduled or impromptu workshops. Each participant will submit a short (200-300)word) abstract. In August, the preregistered conferees will vote for the abstracts they would like to have presented as plenary talks. The program committee will then combine the talks receiving the most votes with others to develop the session topics and overall meeting agenda. Conferees not selected for plenary talks will present their work as posters and/or in workshops. We anticipate a modest base of financial support, most of which will be used to provide fee waivers for young investigators (selected in part on the basis of submitted abstracts) and others who may have difficulty attending without financial assistance. If you wish to preregister for this conference, please submit the on-line registration form. July 21 is the deadline for receipt of preregistration forms and abstracts. Please note that we are strictly limiting participation to 90 conferees (unlike 1998). Early respondents will be given preference if the meeting is oversubscribed, and it may be necessary to limit the number of participants from any one laboratory. Also note that you need not send the conference fee now in order to pre-register. Register now and we will bill you later. Program CommitteeCarmen Mannella
