Frontiers of Mitochondrial Research September 24-27, 1998 Rensselaerville, NY

Wadsworth Center State University of New York at Albany F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd. Merck Co., Inc. MitoKor Astra Arcus USA
This is a call-for-participation in an international conference intended to bring together investigators in several different sub-fields of mitochondrial research, including:
- mitochondrial structure and compartmentation The organization and format of the meeting will be modelled after that of the 1st Albany Conference on mitochondria, held in Sept 1996, which is designed to enhance informal exchange of ideas and information with full participation of the conferees in formulating the agenda (as described below and on the homepage for the 1996 conference: www.wadsworth.org/albcon96. The 1998 meeting will be held on Sept 24-27 in a conference center set on a picturesque hillside in the Helderbergs in upstate New York. The site includes a modern auditorium building for plenary and poster sessions, and several comfortable houses and cottages for housing the participants. The conference fee ($400) will cover room and meals from the evening of Sept 24 (Thursday) through midday on Sept 27 (Sunday), as well as transportation between the conference site and the Albany airport. Formal plenary sessions are restricted to mornings and evenings, with the afternoons free for informal discussion and impromptu workshops. Each participant submits a short (200-300 word) abstract (Participant List and Abstracts). In August, the preregistered conferees will vote for the abstracts they would like to have presented as plenary talks. The program committee will then organize the selected talks into specific session topics and develop the meeting agenda. Conferees not selected for plenary talks will present their work as posters and/or in workshops. We anticipate a modest base of financial support, most of which will be used to provide fee waivers for young investistigators (selected on the basis of submitted abstracts) and others who may have difficulty attending without financial assistance. If you wish to preregister for this conference, please submit the application below. We are using July 24 as a deadline for receipt of preregistration forms and abstracts. However, please note that we are limited to about 90 participants at the conference center, so early respondents will be given preference if the meeting is oversubscribed. (It may also be necessary to limit the number of participants from any one laboratory.) Also note that you need not send the conference fee now in order to pre-register. Just send us the form and we will bill you later.
