Urine Pregnancy Testing

Urinalysis: Urinalysis testing is a large part of the routine testing done in clinical laboratories.

This proficiency program is designed to test analytes requested for a general urine screen procedure done either manually or by instrument. Results are reported semi-quantitatively. Analytes included in this proficiency are: specific gravity, pH, glucose, bilirubin, hemoglobin, ketones, and protein. Specimens are prepared as a synthetic buffered base to which the above analytes are added. Specimens are stored and shipped frozen to participants.

Urine Pregnancy Testing: Urine pregnancy proficiency testing covers only qualitative urine screening for pregnancy. This is also a high volume test in most clinical laboratories. Women are routinely screened for detection of early pregnancy and before emergency procedures harmful to a fetus are carried out. Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is added to the same pools used for the urinalysis proficiency testing.
