New York State Department of Health - Wadsworth Center - Cytohematology Proficiency Testing
Slide 026 [100X]
This slide was taken from a peripheral blood smear made from a 13 year old female being evaluated for allergies. The patient's white cell differential showed 29% eosinophils and platelet satellitosis. The directions stated to identify the cell indicated by the arrow, which is a segmented neutrophil. Although hypersegmentation is a phenomenon and not a cell, this response was also acceptable because the neutrophil contained five lobes.
| NUMBER OF RESPONSES | CELL CODE AND TYPE |
457 |
code 47- segmented neutrophil |
48 |
code 30- hypersegmentation |
