Slide 043 [100X]
This slide was taken from the peripheral blood of a 22 year old black male who was a native of West Africa. Upon arriving in the United States, he presented with abdominal pain and fever. This slide pictured a parasite that was identified as Plasmodium falciparum. Hematology laboratories need only to indicate the presence of parasites on peripheral blood smears.
