This slide was taken from the peripheral blood of an 81 year-old female with a high MCV. As the cell shows five segments, both segmented neutrophil and hypersegmentation are acceptable answers. In September 1994 a similar cell was presented. At that time 457 laboratories identified it as a segmented neutrophil and 48 identified it as hypersegmentation.
