Cytohematology Proficiency Testing Glass Slide Critique ~ 1997 Test Event Slide001

Slide 001:

Diagnosis: Folate deficiency.

Available data: 88 year- old female.

Prominent cell findings pertaining to Slide 001 included: anisocytosis, macrocytes, hypersegmented neutrophils, schistocytes and acanthocytes. Laboratories failing to identify these features were assigned error points. Giant platelets, acanthocytes, echinocytes, elliptocytes, spherocytes, and tear drop cells (dacrocytes) although not in abundance, were present on this slide. No error points were issued when identifying those features. Four hundred seventy-one (471) laboratories passed this slide with a score of 80% or higher. Two (2) laboratories received scores below 80%.
