Bacteria: Campylobacter jejuni

C. jejuni is a gram-negative curved rod that causes sporadic gastrointestinal illness. Improperly handled or undercooked food, especially poultry, is the usual vehicle of infection, but contaminated liquids, such as milk and water, have also been implicated. Cases of C. jejuni infection usually occur in the spring and fall. The age groups primarily affected include infants and young children, and 20-40 year olds.
