Disease Carriers - Viruses

Viruses

  • Rotavirus - Viral gastroenteritis is the second most common clinical disease in developed countries (second only to upper respiratory illness0; rotaviruses are the major cause of viral gastroenteritis in infants and young adults.
  • Human Parvovirus B19 - The most common manifestation of human parvovirus B19 infections is erythema infectiosm ("Fifth Disease").
  • Norwalk virus - These viral agents are a cause of gastroenteritis in all age groups of humans. Infection results in nausea, diarrhea, often vomiting, headache, fever and abdominal cramps.
  • LaCrosse virus - La Crosse Virus is an arbovirus (a virus transmitted by insects); it is one of the most important mosquito-borne viruses in the United States.
  • Enteroviruses - Enteroviruses are amongst the most commonly found and most important viral pathogens of humans.
  • Herpes virus - Herpes viruses can infect neonates, children and adults causing a wide spectrum of diseases.
  • Rabies virus - Rabies is a fatal infection of the central nervous system acquired through the bite of a rabid animal.
