Educational opportunities exist at the Wadsworth Center at all levels from undergraduate to postgraduate.

  • Undergraduate students may volunteer or participate in the NSF-funded Research Experience for Undergraduates which takes place each summer.
  • Graduate students at the University at Albany College of Integrated Health Sciences, Departments of Environmental Health Sciences and Biomedical Sciences, are engaged in research at the Wadsworth Center through joint ventures with the school.
  • Postgraduate students (having already received a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree) can become members of our Fellow Community by joining one of our fellowship programs.
  • Postdoctoral students and visiting scientists are welcomed at the Center and may choose to participate in one of our training programs or contact the Principal Investigator in a laboratory of interest to learn of lab-specific opportunities.

Previously, the Center also participated in the Fogarty International Training and Research Program, a multi-institutional, multi-national collaborative effort to expand the research capacity in target countries to better prevent infectious disease, and the NIH Biodefense & Emerging Infectious Diseases Training Program which prepares the next generation of scientists who will develop integrated research programs in biodefense preparedness and response to infectious threats.

Today staff are active in hosting Laboratory Tours, participating in career discussions, and speaking to students about lab science in the classroom. To request more information about how we can help your class, connect with us at wcreach@health.ny.gov.
