2007 Public Lecture Series - Science at Your Service

Kenneth Aldous, Ph.D.

Dr. Aldous received his doctorate in analytical chemistry in 1970 from Imperial College, London University, England. He joined the Department of Health as a research scientist the same year, becoming deputy laboratory director, Lead Poisoning Control Program in 1972. He has been the chief of the Laboratory of Organic Analytical Chemistry since 1983, and this year was named deputy director of Wadsworth Center's Division of Environmental Disease Prevention. During his tenure at Wadsworth, Dr. Aldous has developed improved instrumentation for the detection of lead in blood and the measurement of dioxins and other trace organic compounds in environmental and biological specimens. He also is involved in biomonitoring studies related to hazardous waste sites, industrial chemical exposures and the development of laboratory capacity for responding to chemical terrorism events.
