Dr. Pass is a research scientist who serves as deputy director of Wadsworth Center's Division of Genetic Disorders. He also is chief of the Laboratory of Genetic Services in which he has primary responsibility for the state's Newborn Screening Program. Dr. Pass trained as a physiologist at the Medical College of South Carolina in Charleston. His interests include the technology of newborn screening for hemoglobin disorders, introduction of a true multiplex assay for the core panel of most newborn screening programs, financing of genetic services, ethical issues arising from the explosion of genetic technology and information, and, most recently, alternatives to the traditional newborn paradigm. He has published more than 50 papers and book chapters.
