Breath Alcohol Permit Program

The Breath Alcohol Permit Program (BAPP) is responsible for issuing permits to law enforcement officers that have demonstrated proficiency in the operation of breath testing instruments that analyze a person's breath alcohol content. Permits are issued based on verification of an operator's credentials and competency issued by a training agency. Agencies include the Office of Public Safety of the Division of Criminal Justice Services, the Division of State Police, the Nassau County Police Department, the Suffolk County Police Department and the New York City Police Department. BAPP maintains records of each officer's original certification, recertification, renewal and permit expiration dates.
