Nuclear Chemistry Laboratory

The Nuclear Chemistry Lab (NCL) is a part of the Laboratory of Inorganic and Nuclear Chemistry, and included with the other environmental laboratories in the Division of Environmental Disease Prevention.

The NCL conducts analyses as part of State-mandated environmental surveillance programs. The laboratory analyzes samples collected for compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act and State-mandated environmental surveillance around nuclear power reactors and users of radioactivity (e.g., hospitals, universities). These analyses maintain a state of readiness in the laboratory for cases involving nuclear spills, emergencies, and dispute resolution.

The programs on our web pages briefly describe the NCL's mandated analytical services carried out in order to protect the public's health against unsafe levels of radioactivity, including emergency situations. The laboratory has worked diligently to achieve the high standards and excellence required of a reference analytical laboratory.
