What action does a lab take if they have not received their Proficiency Test?

Please notify the state laboratory at 518-474-4177. Please have your Permanent Facility Identifier (PFI) number ready when you call.

What does a laboratory do if the specimens arrive in unsatisfactory condition or if the shipment is incomplete?

Please call Ms. Sandy Lionarons at 518-474-4177 and have your PFI number ready when you call.

Can we fax our results?

No, we do not have a dedicated FAX machine and can not guarentee receipt of your test results.

What test must be performed on each specimen?

Depending on the specific directions listed for each of the five test specimens your lab would perform any test necessary to identify organisms listed on the glossary under the appropriate heading. For example, If "Report All Parasites" is requested then your lab must perform all tests necessary to identify any organisms listed on the glossary that is applicable to the specimen type.

When do we report seeing Blastocystis hominis?

Due to it's uncertain taxonomic position Blastocystis hominis should be reported only when "Report ALL Parasites" is requested.

When do we test for Cryptosporidium parvum?

You should include a test for C. parvum whenever required by the type of parasite requested. This would include "Report ALL Parasites" and "Report Protozoa Only

What signatures are required on the attestation form?

Either the Director or the Certificate of Qualification holder for Parasitology may sign the attestation statement.

What if a lab wants to validate a new test or if the lab would like to continue their education through training?

If we have a supply of the type of samples you need we would be happy to send them for validation studies. We can also supply samples for educational purposes. Our laboratory provides continuing education through workshops, educational mailings and upon special request we will do one on one training. If you are having difficulty with identification of an organism or a staining technique please don't hesitate to call. (518)474-4177

What if the lab doesn't routinely perform the test requested?

Then use code 49 for "Test not performed".
