Research Interests
My research interests are transfusion medicine and tissue banking, with focus on regulatory oversight, transfusion-related errors and risks, and epidemiologic aspects of transfusion medicine. The New York State Department of Health's Blood and Tissue Resources Program oversees development, implementation and enforcement of standards for more than 1,000 blood banks and tissue banks located in, or conducting business in, New York State. Responsibilities include safety of the donor and the recipient, from collection through processing and testing to transfusion or transplantation. Approved facilities are required to report their activity (collection, testing and test results, processing, and disposition) and their blood bank and transfusion-related errors and incidents with potential for adverse outcome to donor or recipient.
