RA GN - Gaussian contrast Normalization

(9/9/95)

PURPOSE

Fits a Gaussian distribution to coordinates and corresponding values stored in a document file. (Use "SD Key,x-coo,y-coo,value to store in file) The coordinates should be the center coordinates of windows taken from the large pictures in areas with only carbon foil. The value is the average density of the window. Uses the parameters of the fitted Gaussian function to divide an image point-by-point, thus normalizing the contrast according to the value of the local average.

USAGE

.OPERATION: RA GN

.INPUT1 FILE: PIC001
[Enter the name of the file that is to be corrected.]

.(F)IT,(C)ORRECT,(B)OTH: B
[Either fits the Gaussian function or normalizes the image (the latter requires the input of the parameters of the Gaussian function) or does both, fits the Gaussian function and uses the parameters found for the normalization.]

.DOCMNT FILE: DOC001
[Enter the name of the document file containing the coordinates and values of local averages.]

.STOP AT INCREASING SQ-SUM (Y/N): Y
[Determines if the iteration of the least square fit should be terminated as soon as the least square sum increases.]

.START VALUES: A0 X0 Y0 SIG A

XXXXX XXXXX XXXXX XXX XXXX

.OVERWRITE START VALUES? (Y/N): N
[If you want to specify the start values for the iterations externally, answer 'Y'.]

.OLD (DOCFILE),NEW(IMAGE) DIMENSIONS: 512,2124
[Enter the x-dimension of the image where the coordinates are taken from and the x-dimension of the actual large image which is to be normalized (PIC001). The ratio is used to multiply the coordinates.]

.OUTPUT FILE: OUT001
[Enter the name of the output file.]
