  1. LOADING THE DISTRIBUTION Code is distributed by ftp or by Internet download in compressed tar format. The distribution takes about 176 Mb of disk space but includes libraries and executables for different systems. Only about 17Mb is necessary for a single operating system. To load SPIDER use the following commands:
    cd PARENT-DIR
(where PARENT-DIR is parent for desired location of SPIDER,assume it to be C:\)
    For Ftp delivery:
Unzip the file, we suggest using Winzip. Winzip is a software for Windows to use Zip files and other archives in compression formats, you can download Winzip from your internet browser.
There are two steps involved, first, extract the zip file, second, extract the tar file. During the first extraction, specify
    PARENT-DIR\spider
( spider is a new sub-directory for SPIDER, hereafter referred to as SPIDER_DIR)
in the extract window. After that, be sure to rename the tar file with the extension .tar before opening it for the second extraction, and keep the path PARENT-DIR\SPIDER_DIR in the extract window.
T he following directories will be created:
    SPIDER_DIR ------------ installation instructions
    SPIDER_DIR\src -------- source code, libraries
    SPIDER_DIR\bin -------- executable files
    SPIDER_DIR\man -------- ASCII documentation, Nextresults
    SPIDER_DIR\docs ------- documentation
    SPIDER_DIR\proc ------- Sample proceedure files
    SPIDER_DIR\prints ----- hardcopy documentation
