Core Facilities

Investigators of the Wadsworth Center have access to many central resource laboratories called Core Facilities. The Core Facilities house specialized equipment, provide expertise, and help investigators successfully carry out their experiments and train junior investigators in new technologies. Each core facility is headed by (an) experienced scientist(s). The following cores provide unique and practical learning opportunities for Wadsworth Center's MLS students:

The Dickerman Library

Dickerman Library.

The Herbert W. Dickerman Library is Wadsworth Center’s biomedical research library. It is located at the Empire State Plaza in downtown Albany. The library is available to all Wadsworth Center and Health Department staff, and to faculty and students from the Wadsworth Center Master of Science in Laboratory Sciences program. The Library offers:

  • Reference services
  • Interlibrary loan
  • Database searching
  • Use of the collection of approximately 50,000 books and reports
  • Over 800 scientific and public health journals in print and over 2,500 electronic journals
  • Through the Library’s homepage, users have access to research databases, electronic journals, catalogs of the Dickerman Library and other libraries and various other Internet resources

Laboratory Safety

The responsibility for overseeing and enforcing the Wadsworth Center's Laboratory Safety program ultimately rests in the Center Director's Office. However, immediate responsibility rests with each student and his/her supervisors. All students will be provided safety information and training at student orientation. The Safety Office is a source of information on many safety-related subjects including fire prevention and protection, industrial safety and hygiene, radiation safety, biosafety and chemical safety. Housing Information

  • University Heights College Suites are located in the heart of the University Heights section of Albany, New York and surrounded by the campuses of Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Albany Medical College, Sage College of Albany, Albany Law School and the Wadsworth Center School's David Axelrod location. Many local college students call UH College Suites home, including those attending the MLS Program, College of St. Rose, Maria College and SUNY Albany. UH College Suites are conveniently located near many of Albany's finest attractions.
  • Apartment rentals: Numerous apartment complexes and independent rentals are also available near the Wadsworth Center School in Albany.

Health Insurance

While health insurance coverage is not provided, students are encouraged to obtain coverage. It is not mandatory for admission/enrollment to the program.
