The incumbent will be responsible for the following activities: preparing and/or reviewing budget and purchase requests; administration of State, federal and HRI funds; developing personnel and staffing plans, and internal policies and procedures; managing personnel activities such as recruitments, performance evaluations, training, and development of position classification documents; and providing policy interpretation. The incumbent may supervise administrative and/or secretarial staff and serve as a division representative at meetings, for special projects, etc.

The Wadsworth Center, New York State Department of Health, is seeking an outstanding research scientist to support and collaborate with recently established Principal Investigators within the Division of Environmental Health Sciences (DEHS). The incumbent will be expected to support and help guide the Laboratory of Organic Chemistry, while contributing to the development and execution of a public health laboratory program focused on organic environmental testing. The successful candidate will engage in independent research at the intersection of mass spectrometry, organic analytical chemistry, environmental toxicology, and public health, complementing existing strengths within the Center. The selected candidate will join a highly collaborative group of research scientists and contribute to expanding the Center’s environmental health sciences program. Research areas may include but are not limited to: emerging organic contaminants; microplastics and nanoparticles; novel applications of mass spectrometry; and cheminformatics.

The Data Analyst will formulate analytical methods required for regulatory program functions, quality control/quality assurance, and reporting. They will analyze program data for both routine operations and special projects, as well as maintain the current data analysis and visualization infrastructure. The Assistant Research Scientist will assist with performing public health DNA sequencing in the Advanced Genomic Technologies Cluster (AGTC). The incumbent will assist with the entire sequencing process from sample accessioning to review of the results. In addition, the incumbent will learn new methods and automated technologies as they are developed to continually improve sequencing services. The incumbent will perform other appropriate related duties.
