Rapid advances in laboratory instrumentation, automation, and computational technologies have created unprecedented opportunities to strengthen the prevention, detection, and response to public health threats. The Wadsworth Center’s Community, Advancement, Recruitment, and Engagement (CARE) program has focused on promoting the adoption of automated workflows by ensuring that staff have access to high-quality training resources and in-house expertise.
Over the past year, Drs. Wolfgang Haas, Alexander Keyel, and Jiada Li have led efforts to build programming and data science capacity across the Center by offering training in Python, R, and artificial intelligence, respectively. These training groups, launched in late 2025 and early 2026, have collectively enrolled 76 staff members. In addition, Dr. Li partnered with the Center’s Peer Training Program to develop and deliver the “Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Lecture Series,” organized by the CARE Steering Committee, which attracted 51 registrants.
