On October 15, Dr. Joseph Wade, Associate Director for Research and Technology at the Wadsworth Center, organized a half-day retreat for scientists leading independent public health research programs. Held at the University at Albany, 52 participants, including three senior staff members from Health Research, Inc., attended.

The primary goal was to identify and discuss high-priority scientific areas for the Wadsworth Center over the next five years. Topics included the detection of microplastics in environmental and clinical samples and the use of metagenomic approaches for pathogen diagnostics and surveillance. Wadsworth scientists also presented research projects supported through recent Health Research, Inc. seed funding.

The retreat provided an opportunity to strengthen collaboration, identify emerging scientific opportunities in public health research, and help shape the Center’s future priorities.
