Newborn Screening Program Adds Three More Disorders Beginning October 1, 2018
Friday, September 21, 2018
This brings the number of disorders, for which every child in New York State may be screened, to more than 50.
Fact Sheets for the three new disorders:
- Guanidinoacetate methyltransferase deficiency (GAMT)
- Mucopolysaccharidosis, type I (MPSI)
- Spinal Muscular Atrophy
SMA and MPSI are part of the Secretary of Health and Human Services’ Recommended Uniform Screening Panel (RUSP). With this addition, NYS will be screening for all the conditions on the RUSP.
Letter to health care providers from Dr. Caggana, Director, Newborn Screening Program.
