Drs. Rajendra Agrawal and Soneya Majumdar represented the Wadsworth Center at Ribosomes 2025, the Triennial Ribosome Meeting held June 22–27 in Asilomar, Pacific Grove, California.
Dr. Majumdar delivered a platform presentation titled “A novel actinobacteria-specific ribosome hibernation factor in Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb),” which was extremely well received. Her research, performed in collaboration between the Agrawal and Ojha Laboratories, generated significant interest and sparked multiple discussions about potential collaborations, with many attendees expressing their enthusiasm following her talk.
The meeting also recognized past Wadsworth Center contributions to the field. On the opening day, Professor Harry Noller presented a historical overview of ribosome research, highlighting approximately 20 landmark publications – including pivotal work by Dr. Joachim Frank and Dr. Raj Agrawal at the Wadsworth Center. In his closing remarks, Professor Peter Moore emphasized the central role of cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) in ribosome research and cited Dr. Frank’s groundbreaking cryo-EM work at the Wadsworth Center as a foundational achievement. He noted that the majority of the conference posters and talks featured at least one cryo-EM image, underscoring the technology’s transformative impact.
